The BioConnects Leadership Team plans many events. We aim to plan 1 or 2 BioNights per semester with a “big” event.

We divide the year into 2 semesters (September — December) and (January — June). You can join/leave/or get promoted before each semester.

The BioConnects BioNight is a community event that teaches 3 specialized topics to middle school students 3 learning sessions, 1 review session, and 1 fun activity night.

Every leadership member starts out as a member: a member can join one of the six existing teams above. During your time as a member of BioConnects, you will learn and implement material from one of the subcategories. We are also constantly expanding and adding more categories.

In the Leadership Team, there are also a variety of ways to grow. We have positions change 2 times a year (2 semesters).

Leadership member (~3 per team) –> Team lead (1 per team) –> Officer (varies per officer) –> Core Officer (4)

For a leadership member, there is usually one hour of work per
week. As we get closer to events, hours may increase, while vice
versa is also true when we are further from events.

Meetings happen every week from 7:30 – 8:30 PM on Sunday. We
are very flexible, and attending every meeting is not required.
When we get closer to events, there may be more required
meetings.

We are an official certifying organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award. In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the PVSA to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity and to honor individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too. The PVSA has continued under each administration, honoring the volunteers who are using their time and talents to solve some of the toughest challenges facing our nation. This prestigious award is given to incredible leaders who go above and beyond to make the world a better place through volunteerism. BioConnects volunteers now have the exclusive privilege of earning this award by submitting their volunteer hours.

Join a Specialized Team

BioConnects proudly boasts six specialized teams, each dedicated to a distinct area of biological research. With a commitment to in-depth exploration, each team immerses itself in its unique field of study, ensuring the specilized level of expertise and focus in every project.

We are actively in the process of adding more teams, each led by a seasoned team lead, ensuring that every facet of biological science finds its rightful place within our diverse community. Join us in this exciting journey of exploration and discovery!

Anatomy

Anatomy delves into the intricacies of the human body, encompassing the examination of bodily systems, tissues, organs, and the overall structure and organization of our physical form. The subject enables us to gain a deep understanding of the body’s inner workings, allowing us to appreciate its complexity and functionality.

Cancer Cell Research

Cancer Cell Research (CCR) is a name for the general field(s) that explores the intricate processes of cell duplication, replication, and the multifaceted world of various cancer types. CCR unravels the mechanisms that underlie the unchecked growth and division of cells, leading to the formation of malignant tumors.

Genetics

Genetics focuses on heredity, the molecular basis of life, and the profound impact of genetics on human health and biology. Genetics is the cornerstone of our understanding of inheritance, evolution, and the genetic underpinnings of diseases.

Neuroscience

Neuroscience unravels the mysteries of the nervous system and explores the intricacies of the human brain. Neuroscience encompasses a broad spectrum of knowledge, ranging from the fundamental anatomy of the brain to the complexities of neurological disorders.

Epidemiology

Epidemiology is the science of disease patterns, transmission, and prevention –  where public health intertwines. Our team focuses on not only infectious diseases but also non-communicable diseases, chronic conditions, and public health concerns.

Bioengineering

Bioengineering combines biology, engineering, and innovation to create groundbreaking solutions for the treatment and understanding of diseases. Bioengineering, at its core, is all about applying engineering principles to biological systems.
